Perth casino investigation deadline extended
Casino operator Crown Resort ltd said on Monday that the timeline for the Perth casino investigation has been extended by the state of Western Australia until March 2021.
The decision follows an announcement by the state of Victoria that additional funding and time would be given to another Crown Commission, which is currently investigating Crown activities in the state, to gather further information at a detailed level.
Such a mandate increases Crown's scrutiny at a time when the company is struggling to divert attention from a case of suspicion over its casino licence in Sydney and trying to counterbalance negotiations with Star Entertainment Group.
The purpose of the ongoing investigation
The ongoing investigations into the Perth casino are aimed at determining the casino's eligibility for a gaming license in a number of Australian states, after one-third of the company's owner James Packer was accused by the Australian government of involvement in money laundering.
